Julia Rooney is excited to take part in this epic operatic tale with Greg Dala in the title role and a spectacular cast. Based on a European maritime legend, The Flying Dutchman tells the haunting story of a sailor and his daughter who encounter a ghost during a storm on the sea. The Dutchman, who has been condemned to wander for eternity, is searching for a bride to finally bring him peace. This tragic tale of love and sacrifice is the composer’s first masterpiece and features magnificent orchestration of Wagnerian proportions. This will be a new production for Vancouver Opera, directed by Brian Deedrick and conducted by Leslie Dala.

Julia Rooney is thrilled to return to her first full stage production since the pandemic. The Pearl Fishers returns to Vancouver Opera for the first time in nearly 30 years. Directed by Vancouver favourite Rachel Peake, this dramatic opera tells the tale of two devoted friends and the woman that comes between them. The famous “Friendship Duet”,  Au fond du temple saint, is one of the most beautiful and recognizable pieces in the opera repertoire. Be swept away by the lush orchestration and Bizet’s trademark melodies. This production is under the baton of Kamna Gupta and features breathtaking choreography by Krystal Kiran.

Written by Benny Anderson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Tim Rice’s, this Cold War-era chess tournament musical was inspired by the 1972 “Match of the Century” between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky. Andrew Greenwood stars in the title role along side Melissa Ratcliff as Lady Macbeth.

Faust sells his soul in return for youth and the love, but by trying to have it all, he loses everything. Gounod’s sensuous and sublimely melodic masterpiece features an all-Canadian cast including David Pomeroy, Marianne Fiset, and Robert Pomakov. Jonathan Darlington returns to conduct the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

Don’t miss this rollicking tale of disguise, scandal and romantic antics, set at a beachside resort and brought to life by a talented cast of multi-award-winning artists. With Stage Direction by Robin Hahn and Music Direction by Ian Dives, the production is performed with piano in Italian with English subtitles at Marpole United Church, Vancouver.
